Off I was on an adventure once again into the mountains to visit my sister and as I always do every spring. I have my gear ready sitting on my lap as I drive up into the mountains 55 K away from the closest major center. Always I see mountain goats , big horned sheep , elk and deer but I was not at all prepared to encounter a grizzly bear that early spring afternoon . Clam as I could be I started to drive very slowly when in fact this beautiful creature was not even aware of my truck.
I stopped and watched and still this grizzly bear did not know I was there , I could tell. Knowing how very dangerous these animals are I though to myself its now or never, I may never get a chance like this again. I turned off my truck pulling the keys out of the ignition as the truck makes a loud beeping notice as soon as I open my door. On the dash my keys went and I stepped out of my truck with one foot. One foot inside and one foot on the pavement . There I was with my camera in between the windshield and door taking photo after photo of this amazing grizzly's and still he did not know I was there. As he walked along approaching me closer and closer I decided I had better get in my truck and that's when he did see me and off into the bush he ran. I drove off thinking to myself. I just had the most amazing encounter I could have ever had out in the wilderness ,one I had only dreamed about. Safe with a grizzly bear encounter I was back on my way to my sisters not ever looking for any other animal with an incredible humbled feeling and new respect for nature.
Will I ever get this chance again ? I don't know for sure but its not likely that I will.
